AFT Massachusetts represents librarians and library personnel at public facilities across the state, including the 28 libraries that make up the Massachusetts Library Staff Association. As our public libraries face budget cuts—even closure—AFT Massachusetts is a forceful voice on behalf of this essential community service and the vital personnel who provide it.

A recent change in the state's healthcare law may be relevant to you. As of this summer, municipalities may join the state's General Insurance Commission (GIC) in order to try to secure lower health insurance premiums.
The law requires that all public sector bargaining units in cities or towns that seek to join the GIC—including librarians—agree to negotiate collectively over health benefits.
